How can Hypnotherapy help?

“By the end of my treatment, I felt like I’d been handed a completely new mind.”
Vicky – Wiltshire

Hypnotherapy (also known as Psychotherapy) can be one of the most powerful and effective tools for rebuilding and strengthening psychological and emotional wellbeing. Hypnotherapy is based on science, Neuroscience in fact, which is the study of the human nervous system.

The power of hypnotherapy lies within the hypnotic state. When we’re nicely relaxed during hypnosis, most people are very much more susceptible to the ideas that are suggested to them than they would be in ‘normal’ levels of consciousness.

This means we are able to by-pass something called the “Conscious Critical Faculty”. This is the part of our brain designed to help us act and trust upon only what we know to be tested and true. This makes sense when we think about all that our ancestors have had to endure to survive and enable us to have the comparatively safe lives we do now.

However, it can hold us back from making new changes when every new encounter and situation is effectively assessed against our existing knowledge base. Although this is a simplified explanation, which includes previous limitations and awareness of what we CANNOT do, effectively if this comparison process does not find a match to what we have already learnt, it is likely to reject this new information as worthless.

For example if I were to tell you, “At night we can see the sun more clearly than during the day”, you’ll instantly know that this is not the case. And why? Because you learnt that the moon that is more visible at night and we can only see the sun during the daytime. This information was not something you were born with, it’s something you have learnt and now believe to be correct and so your Conscious Critical Faculty filters out all information that does not fit in with your belief system.

This system, designed to protect us, is precisely why hypnosis and hypnotherapy can be so helpful!

By reducing critical awareness, that voice that says, “I can’t do that.” makes a person more open to positive suggestions and the possibility of change, allowing ideas and suggestions to be accepted by the non-critical, non-logical, subconscious mind, and once accepted, the mind has a clear instruction and its able to act upon it.

With a steady cumulative effect, these new changes become automatic meaning hypnotherapy can give you the capacity to improve your life in many ways, enabling you to adopt a resilient approach to life’s challenges, build stronger relationships and develop your capability to take control of your life so you can achieve your goals.

If you are tired of feeling in a rut, unhappy or frustrated by problems in your life and feel ready to change things for the better, I will work with you to tame your brain, take back control and rediscover yourself again.
